Chip and Seal
Chip Sealing, or Tar and Chip, involves spraying a hot rubber-based asphalt emulsion onto the surface, then immediately spreading a layer of uniformly sized aggregate chips (there are couple different colors of stone you can use). The hot rubberized asphalt emulsion retains flexibility and will not bleed through the aggregate overlay. The new surface is rolled to seat the aggregate. There is no maintenance with Tar & Chip Pavement, it is a lot more flexible than asphalt & concrete so it doesn't crack as easy under pressure or shifting of the ground. A proper Tar & Chip Seal job will give you a good 20 year service.
